This is a truth of life, and you cant deny it. You may need things, gadgets, technology, money and everything else that money can buy, but you need them just as you need a tooth brush, a shoe-string or a spoon – all of these have utility value, that’s all. You need them because they can help you live easily, with comfort. But what does it mean to live?
Don’t you think that to live means to experience a sense of aliveness, to experience peace and happiness?
Fortunately, the things we really want or need, like peace and happiness are already with us. Nothing metaphysical about it! Some how through some accident, there is a distortion in our perception and we think that when I get the job, I will enjoy, when I get into a relation, I will be happy, when I find the perfect house or car or person, I will be at peace. Look at the story of your life. It shows the contrary is true. That you always had this feeling that once you made it to there, you will be happy or at peace. Many a times you got what you wanted, but the peace or happiness that you thought would follow that achievement never came to you – except for few fleeting experiences.
You do not have to wait to live life, you do not have to wait for the peace and happiness. There is no need to wait for some outer achievement so that eventually you can enjoy life. Wouldn’t it be foolish to make a circular journey of the whole world, so that you can reach you city? You are already there, just turn your face towards the city and you will know you are there.
External achievement and inner peace are two different departments, as if two different boxes. It is not true that when you achieve you get peace, or then you can enjoy life. They are different dimensions. You can enjoy living life right now, and then go out in the world to achieve – if you still feel like achieving in the outer world. |
